Information

The focus of this session is to empower the supercomputing research community with tools, techniques and insights to navigate and overcome communication challenges when presenting HPC facilities and technologies to decision makers. By fostering connections between researchers, industry professionals and communications experts, this session will enable participants to amplify the reach and influence of their work and build stronger relationships with funding bodies and industrial partners across organisational boundaries and disciplines.

In this session, we will demonstrate the value of high-quality communications activities when engaging with government funding bodies and industry partners within the supercomputing community, whilst also troubleshooting communication challenges through interactive discussions with attendees. The session will provide an opportunity to connect and network for like-minded research and industry professionals at all stages of their career. They are interested in effectively disseminating HPC research and demonstrating the impact supercomputing makes in society to key stakeholders like government and funding bodies.

Key themes and discussions

We will explore practical examples of successful communications strategies for HPC facilities and technologies, with each speaker covering a critical focus area. Topics will include:

- Communicating large EU funded projects: Strategies for articulating the value and outcomes of major, multi-consortia collaborative initiatives to funding bodies and beneficiaries, demonstrating return on investment.
- Launching new HPC facilities: Sharing insight and practical communications and stakeholder engagement tips from naming and launching a new supercomputer and supercomputing centre in the UK.
- Industry insight: Understanding how to effectively engage with industry partners and align research communications with industrial needs, particularly as industry involvement becomes increasingly essential for wide scale projects with large societal impact.
- Emerging technologies: Strategies for articulating the viability and impact of integrating emerging technologies, like quantum computing, into traditional research environments to help boost industry engagement.

Practical insights and skills development

Participants will gain actionable insights into:

- Articulating the societal and economic impact of HPC research and facilities to secure and maintain support from funders, industry and government stakeholders.
- Building effective partnerships with industry and understanding their communications expectations and requirements.
- Navigating the balance between technical accuracy and accessible messaging when presenting to diverse stakeholder groups.

Why you should attend:

This session aligns with ISC 2026’s theme, ‘Connecting the Dots,’ by offering attendees a platform to:

- Troubleshoot common communications challenges with input from leading experts in research and industry.
- Build shared networks and collaborative opportunities within the international supercomputing community.
- Exchange innovative ideas on how to ensure communications are inclusive, accessible, and aligned with multiple community interests.

Whether you’re a seasoned researcher, an early-career scientist, or an industry professional, this session will provide valuable perspectives on using strategic communications to secure funding, foster partnerships and drive the adoption of HPC innovation.

Let's work together to amplify the impact of HPC research and connect the dots between cutting-edge facilities and technologies, effective stakeholder engagement and sustained support from government and industry.
