Information

The integration of quantum processors into high-performance computing environments is no longer a future ambition, it is happening now. Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech has deployed an analog quantum computer at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), complementing the two digital quantum systems already installed there and creating one of Europe's most complete multimodal quantum computing infrastructures.

In this session, we address a question the HPC community is increasingly asking: beyond CPUs and GPUs, is there another choice? Analog quantum processors offer a fundamentally different computational model, one that operates on continuous quantum states rather than discrete gate operations, and that may deliver computational advantages for specific problem classes well before fault-tolerant digital quantum computers are ready.

We will share concrete results from Qilimanjaro's work at the intersection of quantum and HPC, discuss how analog and digital quantum systems complement rather than compete with each other, and present our vision for what truly integrated quantum-HPC infrastructure looks like in practice.

Drawing on our experience deploying quantum computers in operational data center environments, we will also reflect on what this means for the HPC ecosystem at large, and what we expect the quantum-HPC landscape to look like by ISC 2036.
