Information

South Africa started investment in HPC system in 2006 with the first system being a 2.5 TFLOP machine, which is currently sitting at Petascale system. The drivers for HPC, even though being from broad science and engineering domains, have been significantly boosted by the award to host the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) telescope. The precursor of the SKA, MeerKAT, is operating and producing science and driving the demand for HPC systems. This talk will share plans on HPC deployments to meet the needs of the Science User Community of both the MeerKAT and the SKA.
