Harnessing the potential of quantum computing

As the landscape of quantum computing continues to rapidly evolve, the question of when to invest in quantum computing knowledge remains a key strategic consideration for organisations. Over the past decades, computational modelling and simulation have provided immense value to organisations, providing them with a deeper understanding and better solutions for many of industrial challenges. However, there remain situations where the computational complexity required to produce meaningful solutions is intractable, even using the world’s most advanced high performance computing capabilities. Though quantum computing has not reached maturity yet, much research is currently underway to understand their potential for many industries including the financial sector, life sciences, automotive and transportation, and defense. This talk will explore the challenge of quantum readiness by surveying some of the research collaborations Quantinuum - the largest quantum computing company in the world - has performed with a range of industry leading organisations. Using real-world case studies, we will highlight the diverse array of sectors poised to benefit from early quantum adoption, including pharmaceuticals, finance, logistics, and cybersecurity. This talk begins to unpack why many first mover enterprise organisations have made significant investments in quantum readiness already, rather than deferring until the technology matures further. We will explore the strategies our industrial collaborators have taken to become quantum ready, which has positioned them as frontrunners in the quantum ecosystem as both end users and developers.
